Understanding US Screw Sizes - Home Improvement Stack Exchange

Why you will never win... Even if you win it all back.

Life-long gambler. My losses are bad and when you account for 2016 bitcoin it could be astronomical.
Last week I had so many expenses coming through that left me practically broke for the month with some debt. I wanted some extra cash for a small trip I had booked, so I fired up a new online casino and proceeded to lose $1500. Now I was screwed. I just wanted an extra $600 and now I had spent the amount of my trip in less than an hour. Welp, I'll guess I'll take an advance on my credit card and let it ride.. Literally 2 hours later I am up $6,000 total. 5 days later $15,000+. 1 week later $32,000+...
Literally this money was enough to solve all my problems and start completely fresh. So what do I do? I lost $50... $500... $5000... $15000.. In the span of 15 minutes! That's correct, I lost $17000 in 15 minutes. So now I'm sitting here typing this waiting for my transactions to clear so I can blow the rest. All I wanted was an extra $600 and now I want the world. I'm still up $15,000 and beyond furious that I could have used that money to annihilate my debt in full. Literally distraught. If you told me a week ago I'd have an extra $15k in my bank account I would have thought it was a miracle. 6 months of grinding work and saving made in a couple of days. Yet I'm distraught at the money I lost back. It's sick. It's why I'll never win and probably be broke tomorrow.

Disabusing the notion that Woods has no loot (and therefore isn't worth playing). 1 of 2.

Once again I have found myself in an argument with people on this subreddit who think Woods is (1) the worst map in EFT, either by design or by enjoyment and, the focus of this part one post, (2) Woods has no loot on the map or you can't make much money.
This is simply not true and I truly have no idea why people believe it to be the case. It is time to disabuse people, who obviously do not play the map and certainly don't understand it, of this notion with evidence. Albeit, admittedly light evidence to start. Look for part 2 which will cover live raids with data collection, that will no doubt be far more conclusive. The reason for this is that I'm taking a break from EFT until the next wipe, or some new, interesting major content releases. At the moment, the game has worn thin for me.
There also appears to be a limiting factor for testing loot amount offline. I had tried 4 raids with different options selected and the loot that spawned was static. I'm not sure what this means, having tested things on offline factory previously this was not the case, loot was not static, but I would be negligent if I didn't mention it. This is why there are only 2 examples from me today on this.
It is also the case, and worth mentioning, that offline raids have significantly reduced loot spawns, de facto. So the numbers we're seeing here would always trend towards the low end of what's possible rather than the high end.
Since these items are all FiR status, I am assuming selling these items at flea market rates upon looking. This will, of course, allow some slight deviations in prices for you personally depending on what day, at what point in the wipe cycle it is, etc. Typically, I don't list all of these items on the flea market, I'll just sell to traders, so it's also worth mentioning that a 15-40% reduction in profits is a possibility, depending on the item(s) and your skills (that affect trader prices).
Individual play style and personal skill in EFT obviously factors in but doesn't change the argument, that is, it is possible to average 500k in loot (profit) on every successful (meaning you survived) Woods raid. Same deal with the Attention skill, this does affect what kind of loot you can find when searching a container, and, of course the speed of searching. This leads to some disparity if you do not play EFT this way and have a low Attention skill.
Now, with all of those declarations out of the way, onto the tests and what fruit they bore!

Goals of test #1: Showcase that Shturman alone is worth ~500k in loot, and, his guards are near that amount if not equal to it. Sub-goal: Obtain 500k of loot outside of Shturman, just looting stuff along the way. Reference: https://imgur.com/a/Omgqhbv
This is a rough map of where I went and why. Nothing I've done here is something I would not do in an online raid, this is a typical path I take from this spawn. Yellow circle is where I spawned, Gray circle is where I extracted, Gray/Yellow stars are locations I looted, red line is the path I took and in this first map, the red x's are where I engaged scavs/scav boss.
Forgot to bring ZB014 key, so I was only able to loot the outside area of the bunker, but these bunkers are great for loot. This is where I found 2 water filters. Moving to 2 crates, checkpoint, looting the cache on the way to scope shack and then scope shack of course. From there looked over the campsite with the flash drive spawn, looting the duffel bag there and then at the rock adjacent to the ammo box. At this point I spotted one of the guards, engaged him and the 2nd one started charging me. With both down, I looted gray warehouse while looking for Shturman. Eventually found him on the outside of gray. Moving on to cabins, looting those before finally heading to mountain stash and finally ZB016 to end.
I looted the 3 guards, and 2 scavs, 1 to grab the triton vest, out of the 9 I killed. All I took from those 2 scavs was the vest.
Reference 2: https://imgur.com/a/HaHxdWs Shturman's loot, after looting his guard. His 2nd guard's weapon had been looted and stolen by a scav, which I later killed but did not loot. This is on the low end for Shturman and his guards, because I did not secure the 2nd weapon, and the guards did not spawn with good armor or rigs, this is also the bare minimum that Shturman spawns with. I typically find a bitcoin or a labs keycard as well. If not on him, then on one of his guards. Didn't take their armor (especially when they spawn with class 6), their rigs, or their headgear, which is something I normally do, but I did of course toss my ADAR to carry 2 SVD's out. I think it's fair to say the boss alone is in the 500k-1mil range of profit to be made based off of this.

Test #2: What's possible/realistic with scavs and containers only? Didn't feel the need to maximize too much, again the loot is static for this test, but this is still a normal route I would take in a typical raid. This route would account for significantly more PvP though so I would take this much slower than the previous raid. I'd expect to spend the entirety of the raid following this route. I'd typically leave a raid like this after successful PvP, but, we're not testing that today.
Reference route: https://imgur.com/a/QLnVxic
Reference loot: https://imgur.com/a/UVHPgX4

Now the more interesting things about Woods is the tendency people have to not play the game and loot containers. I often find most containers have not been looted when I come upon them on Woods. This also does not account for PvP, at all. There's plenty of money to be made with just PvP in mind, especially late in the wipe cycle. So between the scav boss, scavs/player scavs, players and containers on Woods, you absolutely have every opportunity to walk out of every Woods raid with at least 500k. I certainly do.

Technical: The `SIGHASH_NOINPUT` Debate! Chaperones and output tagging and signature replay oh my!

Bitcoin price isn't moving oh no!!! You know WHAT ELSE isn't moving?? SIGHASH_NOINPUT that's what!!!
Now as you should already know, Decker-Russell-Osuntokun ("eltoo") just ain't possible without SIGHASH_NOINPUT of some kind or other. And Decker-Russell-Osuntokun removes the toxic waste problem (i.e. old backups of your Poon-Dryja LN channels are actively dangerous and could lose your funds if you recover from them, or worse, your most hated enemy could acquire copies of your old state and make you lose funds). Decker-Russell-Osuntokun also allows multiparticipant offchain cryptocurrency update systems, without the drawback of a large unilateral close timeout that Decker-Wattenhofer does, making this construction better for use at the channel factory layer.
Now cdecker already wrote a some code implementing SIGHASH_NOINPUT before, which would make it work in current pre-SegWit P2PKH, P2SH, as well as SegWit v0 P2WPKH and P2WSH. He also made and published BIP 118.
But as is usual for Bitcoin Core development, this triggered debate, and thus many counterproposals were made and so on. Suffice it to say that the simple BIP 118 looks like it won't be coming into Bitcoin Core anytime soon (or possibly at all).
First things first: This link contains all that you need to know, but hey, maybe you'll find my take more amusing.
So let's start with the main issue.

Signature Replay Attack

The above is the Signature Replay Attack, and the reason why SIGHASH_NOINPUT has triggered debate as to whether it is safe at all and whether we can add enough stuff to it to ever make it safe.
Now of course you could point to SIGHASH_NONE which is even worse because all it does is say "I am authorizing the spend of this particular coin of this particular value protected by my key" without any further restrictions like which outputs it goes to. But then SIGHASH_NONE is intended to be used to sacrifice your money to the miners, for example if it's a dust attack trying to get you to spend, so you broadcast a SIGHASH_NONE signature and some enterprising miner will go get a bunch of such SIGHASH_NONE signatures and gather up the dust in a transaction that pays to nobody and gets all the funds as fees. And besides; even if we already have something you could do stupid things with, it's not a justification for adding more things you could do stupid things with.
So yes, SIGHASH_NOINPUT makes Bitcoin more powerful. Now, Bitcoin is a strong believer in "Principle of Least Power". So adding more power to Bitcoin via SIGHASH_NOINPUT is a violation of Principle of Least Power, at least to those arguing to add even more limits to SIGHASH_NOINPUT.
I believe nullc is one of those who strongly urges for adding more limits to SIGHASH_NOINPUT, because it distracts him from taking pictures of his autonomous non-human neighbor, a rather handsome gray fox, but also because it could be used as the excuse for the next MtGox, where a large exchange inadvertently pays to SIGHASH_NOINPUT-using addresses and becomes liable/loses track of their funds when signature replay happens.

Output Tagging

Making SIGHASH_NOINPUT safer by not allowing normal addresses use it.
Basically, we have 32 different SegWit versions. The current SegWit addresses are v0, the next version (v1) is likely to be the Schnorr+Taproot+MAST thing.
What output tagging proposes is to limit SegWit version ranges from 0->15 in the bech32 address scheme (instead of 0->31 it currently has). Versions 16 to 31 are then not valid bech32 SegWit addresses and exchanges shouldn't pay to it.
Then, we allow the use of SIGHASH_NOINPUT only for version 16. Version 16 might very well be Schnorr+Taproot+MAST, with a side serving of SIGHASH_NOINPUT.
This is basically output tagging. SIGHASH_NOINPUT can only be used if the output is tagged (by paying to version 16 SegWit) to allow it, and addresses do not allow outputs to be tagged as such, removing the potential liability of large custodial services like exchanges.
Now, Decker-Russell-Osuntokun channels have two options:
The tradeoffs in this case are:
The latter tradeoff is probably what would be taken (because we're willing to pay for privacy) if Bitcoin Core decides in favor of tagged outputs.
Another issue here is --- oops, P2SH-Segwit wrapped addresses. P2SH can be used to wrap any SegWit payment script, including payments to any SegWit version, including v16. So now you can sneak in a SIGHASH_NOINPUT-enabled SegWit v16 inside an ordinary P2SH that wraps a SegWit payment. One easy way to close this is just to disallow P2SH-SegWit from being valid if it's spending to SegWit version >= 16.

Chaperone Signatures

Closing the Signature Replay Attack by adding a chaperone.
Now we can observe that the Signature Replay Attack is possible because only one signature is needed, and that signature allows any coin of appropriate value to be spent.
Adding a chaperone signature simply means requiring that the SCRIPT involved have at least two OP_CHECKSIG operations. If one signature is SIGHASH_NOINPUT, then at least one other signature (the chaperone) validated by the SCRIPT should be SIGHASH_ALL.
This is not so onerous for Decker-Russell-Osuntokun. Both sides can use a MuSig of their keys, to be used for the SIGHASH_NOINPUT signature (so requires both of them to agree on a particular update), then use a shared ECDH key, to be used for the SIGHASH_ALL signature (allows either of them to publish the unilateral close once the update has been agreed upon).
Of course, the simplest thing to do would be for a BOLT spec to say "just use this spec-defined private key k so we can sidestep the Chaperone Signatures thing". That removes the need to coordinate to define a shared ECDH key during channel establishment: just use the spec-indicated key, which is shared to all LN implementations.
But now look at what we've done! We've subverted the supposed solution of Chaperone Signatures, making them effectively not there, because it's just much easier for everyone to use a standard private key for the chaperone signature than to derive a separate new keypair for the Chaperone.
So chaperone signatures aren't much better than just doing SIGHASH_NOINPUT by itself, and you might as well just use SIGHASH_NOINPUT without adding chaperones.
I believe ajtowns is the primary proponent of this proposal.

Toys for the Big Boys

The Signature Replay Attack is Not A Problem (TM).
This position is most strongly held by RustyReddit I believe (he's the Rusty Russell in the Decker-Russell-Osuntokun). As I understand it, he is more willing to not see SIGHASH_NOINPUT enabled, than to have it enabled but with restrictions like Output Tagging or Chaperone Signatures.
Basically, the idea is: don't use SIGHASH_NOINPUT for normal wallets, in much the same way you don't use SIGHASH_NONE for normal wallets. If you want to do address reuse, don't use wallet software made by luke-jr that specifically screws with your ability to do address reuse.
SIGHASH_NOINPUT is a flag for use by responsible, mutually-consenting adults who want to settle down some satoshis and form a channel together. It is not something that immature youngsters should be playing around with, not until they find a channel counterparty that will treat this responsibility properly. And if those immature youngsters playing with their SIGHASH_NOINPUT flags get into trouble and, you know, lose their funds (as fooling around with SIGHASH_NOINPUT is wont to do), well, they need counseling and advice ("not your keys not your coins", "hodl", "SIGHASH_NOINPUT is not a toy, but something special, reserved for those willing to take on the responsibility of making channels according to the words of Decker-Russell-Osuntokun"...).

Conclusion

Dunno yet. It's still being debated! So yeah. SIGHASH_NOINPUT isn't moving, just like Bitcoin's price!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

Kanye Songs Depicted As NBA Players (MBDTF)

Masterpiece 5/11
Dark Fantasy (Jeremy Lin)
When everyone thought after the Taylor Swift incident Kanye’s career would be over, Kanye masterfully created the greatest album of all time. Dark Fantasy was the opener of the album that put him in the GOAT conversation
Dark Fantasy is a song that gives perspective on Fame, and Jeremy Lin has witnessed a sudden rise to stardom like no other. Linsanity brought the whole league together in supporting him. Even his opponents were screaming for him. Both Kanye and Jeremy Lin came from middle class households, and both were struggling to make it in the game in their early parts of their career.
”I fantasized about this while watching Chicago. Melo, Carmelo me, Knicks mediocrealago. Injury, the first year that I blow. How do you say clutch in Chinese? Me llamo.”
Gorgeous (Donavan Mitchell)
Donavan Mitchell is an amazing example of players standing up to racism. Kanye is one of the few rappers that people with no interest in hip hop would listen to, or even could recognize. Donovan Mitchell has a voice that talk about social issues to a group of “fans” who aren’t particularly fond of people who look like Donovan outside the basketball court.
Also Donovan Mitchell is pretty good looking.
”Penitentiary chances, the devil dances. And eventually answers to the call of Autumn. All of them fallin' for the love of ballin'. Got caught with thirty rocks, the fan look like Alec Baldwin.”
Power (Shaquille O’Neal)
Shaquille O’Neal singled handily changed the NBA. Prior to the 2001-2002 season, help defense was illegal. Unfortunately for opposing big men, Shaq dominated, I mean DOMINATED his opponents. He was nearly 370 Pounds in LA, and still had very nice footwork. However, Shaq became quite a polarizing figure, just like Kanye. There’s moments when Shaq says something ridiculous and everybody clowns him, and there’s moments where Kanye steps out of line and we all make a small facepalm. But both Kanye and Shaq are fun, good spirited people who at the end of the day we hold respect for.
”Fuck Orlando they don’t pay cash. Tell em Diesel said Kobe can kiss my whole ass. And specifically he can kiss my ass hole. I can’t shoot free throws? You nephews got jokes.”
Shaq despite not being the quickest, will try to make some hustle plays.
”Now this will be a beautiful death. I’m jumping into the third row
All Of The Lights (Rajon Rondo)
On a game you could only watch on nbastreams...I mean league pass, Rajon Rondo appears to just be a nice playmaker who happens to not be an outside weapon. But when the TNT crew is in the arena or it’s a playoff game, Rondo transforms into one of the most entertaining players to watch in the NBA. Rondo may throw some of the most beautiful passes we’ve ever seen, or maybe throw 20+ assists or perhaps get a 32 point triple double
His fall from his Boston days could be described as:
”Something wrong, I remove my headband. KG gone, my Rivers left. I pissed off Ray, he joined DWade. I missed at the line, and passed that bread. I’m getting traded, I’m almost there. To my surprise, a midget replacing me. I had to take him to that Chris Paul University...”
Monster (Jay Z deleted verse)
”Barkley, Bradley, Johnson, Bogues, Patrick Ewing with no talent, question, what do all of these things have in common?”
So Appalled (Hassan Whiteside)
After Whiteside got paid after balling out before his contract year, his effort has severely lacked To improve the Heat’s interior defense, Spoelstra told Hassan to not mope like DJ Khaled playing the quiet game, and instead. ”Look Hassan, put two hands in the air if you don’t really care. Your contract sometimes, I mean ridiculous. It’s like that some times, I’m putting in Olynyk.”
All Hassan could respond with was “Fiji wishes and different exotic fishes”*
Devil In A New Dress (James Harden)
Oklahoma City was given a difficult question. Hold on to a 22 year old Serge Ibaka who was averaging nearly 4 blocks per game. Or keep their Sixth Man Of The Year, James Harden. The Thunder made the excellent decision in putting the former Sun Devil in a new Houston Rockets uniform. The future MVP’s trade to Houston was the most devastating event to occur in the city’s history.
”What happened to that 3-1 lead? Oh they blew it. KD packs his bags up, who casually could score. Serge Ibaka break ups, the casualty of tour. How Russ gon’ win and have no shooters on the floor? I thought I was the asshole, I guess it’s rubbin off. You signed the, Hooded Carmelonan, the Clanker of Shots, hard to be humble when you are staring down on a Wes Johnsotron.”
Runaway (Chris Paul)
I love Chris Paul, but it’s clear why fans and his opponents think he can be a douche at times. His aggressive physical play style can be changed to an egregious flop in a moments notice. Chris Paul also according to multiple sources, is not exactly loved by officials
”I don’t know what it is with officials. But I’m not too good at that shit. See I could have me a good team, but still be addicted to the State Farm Ads. See I just blame everything on you, at least you know that’s what I’m good at.”
Pusha Morey was asked about if he regrets trading for a PG who will be getting paid 44 million dollars when he’s 36.
”Twenty four seven, three sixty five, his contract stays on my mind. I-I-I-I did it. All right, all right, I admit it.”
Hell of a Life (Amir Johnson)
According to Nicki Minaj, Kanye West was watching adult content on his computer while working on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Whatever he was watching it happened to be a massive success. Amir Johnson, also is an adult films junky, at least according to the numerous actresses he follows.
Joel Embiid on what was on Amir’s phone
”His phone to hide, we both screwed the rules made, he wanna role play til his career over.”
Blame Game (Roy Hibbert)
Roy Hibbert was born ten years too late to be a hall of fame center. During the later stages of the successful 2010s Pacer Teams, Hibbert caught a lot of flak for his underperformance. What may have caused the Paul George, David West, George Hill and Roy Hibbert teams to fall apart was the rumor that Paul George was sleeping with Roy Hibbert’s wife
Roy Hibbert was caught listening into his wife servicing the rising NBA Superstar.

Hibbert taught me
Hibbert taught you well, Hibbert taught you well”
Lost In The World (Tobias Harris to Boban)
Lost In The World is supposedly a love letter Kanye emailed to his now wife Kim Kardashian. And their bond together is almost as strong as Boban’s and Tobias’s

I demand my 16k back from Bitfinex. Follow my legal struggles with them here.
I'll save you guys the hassle and give you a tl;dr first.
You can scroll through my dealings with Bitfinex. Every post is on chronological order. If anyone is experiencing similar issues regarding the negligence of Bitfinex in the handling of the BCH hard fork, give me a direct message. I can help you to the details of my lawyer and we can even coordinate our efforts or just share our findings. I know some trolls here are p*** by Bitfinex to shut us up or make readers doubt what's going on here. Don't get distracted by them. They will come at me trying to discredit my story. Crypto exchanges think they can use us their clients as cash cows, but when they screw up, they don't even think twice about screwing you over. This is my story:
  • Bitfinex stated in a public announcement that all trading on BCH pairs would be stopped at 16:40 PM UTC on November 15th;
  • I started the morning of November 15th with about ~16k in equity on my margin account. I had been scalping throughout the morning/afternoon and had a position open just before the hard fork took place;
  • Bitfinex screwed up by allowing trading to continue after the hard fork time, causing the price to drop from $ ~430 to $ 250 as depicted in the chart below (Exhibit 0) in a few minutes time;
  • During the flash crash that followed (mind you, this happens after the hard fork at 16:40), I tried to close my position manually trying to market close the whole position of 100 BCH - their engine didn't allow the whole position to go through and only 40 BCH went through in increments of 10. As you can imagine they closed at prices wayyyy below the original base price, which was $ ~435 at 16:40;
  • But what happens next is where it gets interesting. After price hits $ 250, Bitfinex decided it was time to close my position and only reimburse 60% of my position in spot BSV / BAB (60 instead of the 100);
  • My account balance started showing weird numbers not making any sense (4.38 BAB and 4.38 BSV, ?!??). After a while my ending balance becomes: $ -13,875 | 60 BAB | 60 BSV. Which at current prices equals $ -13,875 + ( 60 x 129.19 ) + ( 60 x 75,34 ) = $ -1,603;
  • Numerous mistakes followed, the amount of negligence here is shocking, a response time unworthy of a legitimate exchange, among others, caused my account to go from a net account balance of $16k (my equity) to currently -1,6k (yes really!); and here comes the weird stuff;
  • BFX accepted their negligence and came up with the following proposal to reimburse me: $ -21,785 | 100 BAB | 100 BSV;
  • At current prices, this absurd proposal would amount to: $ -21,785 + ( 100 x 129.19 ) + ( 100 x 75,34 ) = $ -1,332. Meaning that I would still owe them 1,3k, for destroying my account balance; and
  • Mind blowing stuff.
Exhibit 0
1. Bitfinex announcement regarding the Bitcoin Cash Hard Fork
  • Snapshot Event at 16:40 PM UTC on November 15, all BCH balances to be frozen and BCH trading to be halted.
Exhibit 1
2. Day 1: E-mail received from Bitfinex, "Position nearing liquidation", at 16:42 pm (UTC) on November 15th
  • Remember, trading should have stopped at 16:40. It did not;
  • Date and time of e-mail received from BFX (see 1); and
  • E-mail content announcing that my position is nearing liquidation at 16:42 PM (see 2).
Exhibit 2
3. Day 1: Order history imported from BFX Ledger
  • I started trading on 15 November with a short position of 70 BCH, built up between 11:14 and 11:30 AM;
    • Closed position in profit between 12:07 and 12:35 PM;
  • Second position of in total 80 BCH short created between 13:13 and 13:18 PM;
    • Closed position in profit between 13:42 and 14:43; and
  • The third position is where everything wrong. Went long with 100 BCH, created between 13:47 and 13:58;
    • Market executed 4 x 10 BCH between 16:41:57 and 16:43:29 at average prices way below the settlement price (keep in mind that settlement should have happened at hard fork time: 16:40 and ~$ 435); and
    • I tried to market close the whole position but the system wouldn't allow it.
Exhibit 3
4. Day 1: Conversation started with BFX Telegram Admin shortly after on 15 November at 18:16 PM (UTC +1)
  • Conversation started after requesting to direct message an admin in the BFX Public Channel (from which I got banned on 19 November after ventilating my frustration about its incredible slow support service and how they could let trading continue; and
  • The conversation continues for a few days during which I give him all the information there is about what has occurred. Initially he tells me I received the correct amount, namely 60 BCH, not wanting to admit BFX screwed up badly here (you'll see that they admit to this eventually).
Exhibit 4
5. Day 1: Support ticket sent to BFX on Thursday 15 November at 17:26 PM
  • Ticket opened after TG Admin' suggestion; and
  • Requesting guidance regarding the BCH flash crash.
Exhibit 5
6. Day 2: Second e-mail to BFX Support Service at 17:23 PM on 16 November
  • I'm asking what to do with my negative account balance, which at the time was changing constantly with weird numbers that didn't make any sense;
  • Asking whether to settle the spot 60 BCH that was credited to me by selling them immediately or not do anything to prevent making things worse than they are; and
  • Notified Bitfinex Support of my conversation with TG admin, and requested to have the conversation added to the ticket.
Exhibit 6
7. Day 3: Initial reply by BFX to ticket received at 03:10 AM on 17 November
  • Initial reply by support indicates that 0 research was done regarding the situation. He just copy pasted my ledger, a copy which I had already sent their TG admin explaining why it was wrong. Have a look at the time of the ledger entries and it tells you enough ;);
  • Position was claimed at 17:03:54 (the snapshot should have been taken at 16:30) as stated by BFX itself; and
  • Wrong amount credited to my account, 60 instead of 100.
Exhibit 7
8. Day 3: Reply to previous e-mail on 17 November at 12:44 PM
  • My reply shows screenshots from my BFX ledger stating the following:
    • i ) trading continued wrongfully and snapshot time should have been 16:40;
    • ii) market executing 4 times 10 BCH between 16:41:57 and 16:43:29; and
    • iii ) trading after 16:40 PM should NOT have been possible, which this guy has trouble understanding.

9. Day 6: An apologetic reply by BFX (one of many): issue forwarded to relevant team, promises to 'get back soon' on 20 November at 03:33 AM
  • Reminder sent between day 3 and day 6.
Exhibit 9
10. Day 7: Reminder sent, requesting an indication for a reply, stating full reimbursement on Wednesday 21 November at 14:32 PM
Exhibit 10
11. Day 9: E-mail by BFX: settling negative balances following BCH hard fork on Friday 23 November at 08:45 AM & reply
Exhibit 11
12. Day 13: Reminder sent to previous e-mail received on Day 9, no information, just 'inundated with support requests regarding the BCH fork' on Tuesday 27 November at 22:00
  • What a shocker, I'm not the only experiencing this issue.
Exhibit 12
13. Day 20: Another apologetic e-mail, investigation continuing, promises to have a response shortly, received on Tuesday 4 December at 10:13 AM & Day 21: Answer to previous e-mail and requesting to have account reinstated, sent on Wednesday 5 December at 10:53 AM
Exhibit 13
14. Day 23: No info besides 'explanation taking slightly longer than anticipated on Friday 7 December at 11:38 AM & Day 28: Another reminder sent on Wednesday 12 December at 10:24
  • Of course they aren't stalling for time...
Exhibit 14
15. Day 29: Proposal in progress, "continue to trade", will not affect decision and proposal by further actions on the platform on Thursday 13 December at 10:52 AM
  • Account balance is still negative, their suggestion to continue trading would mean that I would have to add back 4k from my own money to get to a net account balance of 0 (see Exhibit 17);
  • Only any additions after that would allow me to be able to trade again ([email protected]#!$); and
Exhibit 15
  • Meanwhile my 'Net trading balance' sits at -4,087.07, yes really ([email protected]$), numerous reminders followed.
16. Day 38: Proposal finally in my inbox. What follows is an admittance of guilt and the proposal to settle. Looks like a happy end right? Not so fast. Proposal received on December 22nd at 09:33 AM & Day 39: Requesting confirmation of the stated reimbursement, sent on 23 December at 13:02
The highlights are:
  • "Your BCH position was claimed at an incorrect time..... being claimed at an incorrect base price.";
  • "...you were credited far less.... than should have been";
  • "...orders after the 16:40:00 timestamp should not have gone through.";
  • Your USD balance prior to the claim was 16,042 USD; remember this?; and
  • "In light of this error".
  • This initial offer would mean: $ -7,603 + 100x130,11 + 100x75,96 = $ 13,004. That's still 3k less than my initial account balance before this shit show. But alright, it looks like we're getting somewhere right?
Exhibit 16
18. Day 44: "it seems I misspoke in my previous outline", how many screwups are possible? Received on 28 December at 04:57 AM
Exhibit 17
19. Day 54: Demand letter by my lawyer sent on 7 January at 13:10 & Day 55: Quickest reply I've ever seen from BFX, wow. Received on 8 January at 02:37 AM & Day 61: E-mail by lawyer requesting my account balance to be reinstated to $ 16,042 (my equity before they screwed up). Sent on 14 January at 14:52 PM
  • My lawyer sent a demand letter requesting my $$$ back;
  • 10 day deadline given;
  • Response by BFX is the quickest I've ever seen from them during the past 2 months; and
  • They are trying to bury us in details here, mostly details that aren't of any importance. I'm a Finance as well as Financial Law major. I (heart) details.
Exhibit 18
20. Day 69: Lawyer BFX replies with "I trust that this comprehensive explanation of the proposal will satisfy your client's concern and we can move to wrap up settlement of this matter"
  • This, redditors, is called stalling for time by their lawyers:
Exhibit 19

You know the weird part in all of this. When, not if, the Supervisory Board of iFinex finds out it has several investigations going on against them - because of a mere 16k - they are going to have a field day with these people, mark my words.

13 Months of ADOPTION! -- NANO accepted here! (10)

Hi everyone,
Until May 2018 I posted this on a regular basis since the adoption rate was high. Sometimes we had several new entries per day. Then adoption slowed down and also private work slowed me down.
Also, USE NANO, https://usenano.org appeared and took over some of the work.
usenano.org's listings do not fully match this list and vice versa. Both of us would need to invest some work in order to provide a full list. ;-) -- Both lists together should provide a good overview.
Also: A few weeks ago BrainBlocks reported about 2000 merchants using BrainBlocks. In case they are reading here, please let us know.
This said, I am re-publishing The Reddit NANO Directory
Adoption is crucial! Adoption is king!
ATTENTION: The new Reddit design has screwed up the correct counting in here.
If you switch to the old Reddit design, you will realize, that I am able to count from 1 to over 130.
Dear online merchants,
Please state visibly that you accept NANO and I will be glad to link you here. As a customer I would like to learn about this payment option before having worked my way through to checkout. At the same time this is a great opportunity to advertise NANO as a currency ... on more than 130 sites so far!
Examples: 01, 02, 03, 04.
INTRO 1 (Jan 20, 2019)
After 13 months of adoption we are counting at least 155 (update to follow) shops / options to spend NANO.
This means a current growth rate of <1 shop per day.
NANO has been accepted so far in the US, CZ, GER, UK, CAN, AUS, BRA, FRA, AT, NL, TUR, PH, NZ, JP, RU + CW (Curaçao) + HR (Croatia), ITA, GR (Greece), IRL!!
UPDATED COUNTER: 157 shops / options

LIVE Beijing Conference June 22, 2017: English Translation

Me and my partner are going to do English play by play here. Tickets were around 570 each, so if you found this helpful , please donate.
2:10 Checked in. Around 100 guests attending so far. Conference should officially start in 20 mins.
2:30 Conference started. Currently in the Microsoft Beijing Office Lobby. Just introductions so far. The video trailer they played before the conference was quite impressive and in English.
2:32 srikanth Raju is speaking in English. You guys are good for this part. Big point: Microsoft believes in a heterogeneous Blockchain environment for Azure. Mentioned Ethereum specifically coexisting with antshares.
2:41 Skipped Jiang Li, Microsoft senior consultant's section for some reason.
2:45 Feng han is talking about the rise of alipay and transactions becoming electronic. Believes that full automation is the next step. Alibaba is still only half automated in their logistics. Huawei is interested in building smart cities, and will need blockchain. Note: they aren't announcing a partnership. Just talking about it.
2:51 Feng han talking about current internet infrastructure not being safe for the futures smart infrastructure. Then talked about a class offered by a genius cryptography professor, wangxiaoyun at tsinghua. Made a joke about 300x returns since ICO.
2:57 Hongfei Da. Talking about bitcoin and history of crypto. Now talking about founding of Antshares. Discussing dBFT and consensus briefly. Now talking about ICO. State of AntShares: 432 nodes, 1058300 blocks, main env running for 150 days. 352 stars on GitHub. LOL talking about this subreddit specifically now. Coinmarketcap ranking.
All assets will be digitized. Two categories: 1. Proof of existence is on the blockchain. 2. Off chain physical assets like IDs, bikeshare locks, intellectual property.
Spirit of blockchain isn't decentralization. It is transparency and fairness via publicly agreed upon rules and data.
Mantra: digital asset + digital ID + smart contract = smart economy.
REBRANDING: NEO smart economy. Green logo
Neo contracts with C#, Java/kotlin, python, go
NeoX is like an interledger protocol
NeoQ is quantum safe encryption
NeoFS is a new database layer
Emphasized ecosystem partnership with bancor agrello matchpool
Missed some points because too fast. Will go back later.
3:28 innospace CEO talking. Selected AntShares to join a pool of 10 companies out of 800 applicants. Best companies get 100x growth. Talked about Neo contracts active dev community and emphasized fintrch fundamental paper.
3:35 Alex norta from agrello. English speaking. Introducing the agrello platform currently. Announced new white paper finished today and ICO occurring now.
3:43 Adam from Coindash. Marketing Coindash as a onestop crypto portfolio that enables social trading and facilitates ICOs. Gives test runs for ICOs and let's you gauge interest. Announcing foray into China with close partnership with NEST partnership.
3:59 they made a reference to the matrix where they all pushed buttons and the screen said, WAKE UP NEO
4:00 break for 30 mins
4:31 restarting. CTO of AntShares speaking. Explaining smart contracts. Telling a story about Coke vending machine software executing a smart contract, except it ate his money because of a malicious party blocking the coin entry. Blockchain is necessary to allow smart contracts to be executed fairly.
Neo is different from Eth and fabric because it has static contract calls, deterministic blockchain network calls, and uses oracle's instead of internet API calls. Example, different nodes will have different Google search results based off of IP location.
NeoVM vs EthVM vs Docker Dyanmic sharding for NeoVM makes parallel processing scale better than EVM which has static sharding. Variables in NeoVM are determined beforehand and then the sharding is done before computation as opposed to EVM which divides work inflexibly.
EVM has high coupling (bad). NVM has low coupling like docker. Execution of contracts depends too much on the nodes and blockchain. This point wasn't too clear. Coupling seems to be a concept that people don't talk about often. Sounds like he was saying that you need to run eth smart contracts on a test blockchain environment while NeoVM allows you to test and run code independent of blockchain.
Microsoft offers IDE plugins and compilers to help people develop on the Neo platform.
Digital certificate issuance and asset digitization are supported in Neo but not inherently in Eth.
Storage layer for contracts is built into Neo. You can give authorization for others to read or write your contract storage space. Also, if your contract has a bug, you can take the data and migrate it to a patched contract. Lastly, allows rental of storage space for contracts. No support for any of the three points above in EVM.
Giving example of locking an account for a period of time. Showing decentralized domains. Sounds a lot like Eth name service.
5:21 bijie tech CEO. Talking about Binance ICO. Introducing the Binance team. Binance is a coin to coin centralized exchange. Made a joke about not wanting to ICO but did it after seeing everyone elses valuations.
5:35 fangzhou charity entrepreneur. Became a multimillionaire after getting some ANS.
Money is freedom. Now wants to give charity loans to kids that need an operation but parents don't have the money. Because of new Chinese laws only 113 out of 500 NGOs can receive donation money. Therefore the market for charity is undersupplied by organizations that can use the money.
5:46 xiaobai medical founder
No fixed location, employees or resources. Wants to make a medical system where people record their illnesses and compare outcomes with other patients to determine what is the best treatment. Can also match patients with doctors. Sounds like a combo of ZocDoc and patientory.
5:55 nest smart fund founder
Problems of most funds are lack of liquidity, inability to participate in the invested company, and high management cost.
DAO on ethereum was hacked, but NEST wants to do what DAO does but more safely and more transparently. They choose C# ( made a joke about being at Microsoft and using C#).
Going to make a nest coin that is redeemable for some of the coins that the project backs.
.................................
Questions:
what's going to happen to ANS?
AntShares will retire and get redistributed as NEO in the new wallet software. You don't have to do anything. No reissue so investors don't get screwed. Exchanges will get contacted automatically.
How many devs do you have now?
2 full time devs. They are going to offer NEO bounties on code and hire more.
New exchange announcement?
Binance

thanks short and sweet!!
KAwARLast Friday at 4:10 PM
Is coin request live on the android wallet?
TronLast Friday at 4:10 PM
Nice video.
It isn't in the Play Store yet.
Pho3nix Monk3yLast Friday at 4:10 PM
Well, this is the first time in a while where we have this many devs online. What questions do y'all have?
LSJI07 - MBITLast Friday at 4:11 PM
Algo questions?
Pho3nix Monk3yLast Friday at 4:11 PM
sure
KAwARLast Friday at 4:11 PM
KK
LSJI07 - MBITLast Friday at 4:12 PM
what are the proposed 22 algos in x22r? i could only find the original 16 plus 5 on x21.
TronLast Friday at 4:12 PM
Likely the 5 from x21 and find one more.
We need to make sure they're all similar in time profile.
liqdmetalLast Friday at 4:14 PM
should we bother fixing a asic-problem that we dont know exists for sure or not?
TronLast Friday at 4:14 PM
That's the 170 million dollar question.
[Dev-Happy] BlondfrogsLast Friday at 4:14 PM
I would prefer to be proactive not reactive.
imo
JerozLast Friday at 4:14 PM
same
LSJI07 - MBITLast Friday at 4:15 PM
RIPEMD160 is a golden oldie but not sure on hash speed compared to the others.
liqdmetalLast Friday at 4:15 PM
in my mind we should focus on the restricted messaging etc
Sevvy (y rvn pmp?)Last Friday at 4:15 PM
probably won't know if the action was needed until after you take the action
liqdmetalLast Friday at 4:15 PM
we are at risk of being interventionistas
acting under opacity
TronLast Friday at 4:15 PM
Needs to spit out at least 256 bit. Preferably 512 bit.
LSJI07 - MBITLast Friday at 4:15 PM
ok
TronLast Friday at 4:15 PM
If it isn't 512 bit, it'll cause some extra headache for the GPU mining software.
liqdmetalLast Friday at 4:16 PM
i seek to avoid iatrogenics
TronLast Friday at 4:16 PM
Similar to the early problems when all the algos except the first one were built for 64-bytes (512-bit) inputs.
Had to look that one up. TIL iatrogenics
JerozLast Friday at 4:17 PM
I have to google most of @liqdmetal's vocabulary
liqdmetalLast Friday at 4:17 PM
@Tron tldr: basically the unseen, unintended negative side effects of the asic "cure"
Sevvy (y rvn pmp?)Last Friday at 4:18 PM
10 dolla word
liqdmetalLast Friday at 4:19 PM
we need a really strong case to intervene in what has been created.
TronLast Friday at 4:19 PM
I agree. I'm less concerned with the technical risk than I am the potential split risk experienced multiple times by Monero.
Sevvy (y rvn pmp?)Last Friday at 4:20 PM
tron do you agree that forking the ravencoin chain presents unique risks compared to other chains that aren't hosting assets?
JerozLast Friday at 4:21 PM
Yes, if you fork, you need to figure out for each asset which one you want to support.
Sevvy (y rvn pmp?)Last Friday at 4:21 PM
yeah. and the asset issuer could have a chain preference
TronLast Friday at 4:22 PM
@Sevvy (y rvn pmp?) Sure. Although, I'd expect that the asset issuers will be honor the assets on the dominant chain. Bigger concern is the branding confusion of multiple forks. See Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin SV for an example. We know they're different, but do non-crypto folks?
Hans_SchmidtLast Friday at 4:22 PM
I thought that the take-away from the recently published analyses and discussions was that ASICs for RVN may be active, but if so then they are being not much more effective than GPUs.
Sevvy (y rvn pmp?)Last Friday at 4:22 PM
agreed on all accounts there tron
TronLast Friday at 4:23 PM
I'm not yet convinced ASICs are on the network.
KAwARLast Friday at 4:23 PM
It would be better to damage an asic builder by forking after they made major expenses. Creating for them the type of deficit that could be negated by just buying instead of mining. Asic existence should be 100 percent confirmed before fork.
liqdmetalLast Friday at 4:23 PM
170million dollar question is right.lol
TronLast Friday at 4:24 PM
I've had someone offer to connect me to the folks at Fusion Silicon.
Sevvy (y rvn pmp?)Last Friday at 4:25 PM
yes. and if they are active on the network they are not particularly good ASICs
which makes it a moot point probably
TronLast Friday at 4:26 PM
The difficult part of this problem is that by the time everyone agrees that ASICs are problematic on the network, then voting the option in is likely no longer an option.
Sevvy (y rvn pmp?)Last Friday at 4:26 PM
yes. part of me wonders if we would say "okay, the clock on the asic countdown is reset by this new algo. but now the race is on"
[Dev-Happy] BlondfrogsLast Friday at 4:26 PM
There are always risks when making a change that will fork the network. We want wait to long though, as tron said. It wont be a voting change. it will be a mandatory change at a block number.
Sevvy (y rvn pmp?)Last Friday at 4:26 PM
acknowledge the inevitable
MiloLast Friday at 4:27 PM
I had just a small question from my side. When do you think the android version would be published, and do you maybe have a time-frame for the others?
TronLast Friday at 4:27 PM
Quick poll. How would everyone here feel about a BIP9 option - separate from the new features that can be voted in?
KAwARLast Friday at 4:27 PM
Maybe voting should not be a strictly blockchain vote. A republic and a democratic voice?
[Dev-Happy] BlondfrogsLast Friday at 4:27 PM
@Milo We can try and get a beta out next week, and publish soon after that.
MiloLast Friday at 4:28 PM
@[Dev-Happy] Blondfrogs :thumbsup::slight_smile:
[Dev-Happy] BlondfrogsLast Friday at 4:28 PM
BIP9 preemptive vote. I like it.
TronLast Friday at 4:30 PM
The advantage to a BIP9 vote is that it puts the miners and mining pools at a clear majority before activation.
LSJI07 - MBITLast Friday at 4:30 PM
Centralisation is inevitable unless we decide to resist it. ASIC's are market based and know the risks and rewards possible. A key step in resisting is sending a message. An algo change to increase asic resistance is imho a strong message. A BIP9 vote now would also be an indicator of bad actors early....
TronLast Friday at 4:30 PM
The disadvantage is that it may not pass if the will isn't there.
LSJI07 - MBITLast Friday at 4:30 PM
Before assets are on main net and cause additional issues.
KAwARLast Friday at 4:31 PM
I am not schooled in coding to have an educated voice. I only understand social problems and how it affects the economy.
SpyderDevLast Friday at 4:31 PM
All are equal on RVN
TronLast Friday at 4:31 PM
It is primarily a social problem. The tech change is less risky and is easier than the social.
LSJI07 - MBITLast Friday at 4:32 PM
All can have a share....people who want more of a share however pay for the privilege and associated risks.
KAwARLast Friday at 4:33 PM
Assets and exchange listings need to be consistent and secure.
brutoidLast Friday at 4:36 PM
I'm still not entirely clear on what the overall goal to the algo change is? Is it just to brick the supposed ASICs (unknown 45%) which could still be FPGAs as seen from the recent block analysis posted in the nest. Is the goal to never let ASICs on? Is it to brick FPGAs ultimately. Are we making Raven strictly GPU only? I'm still unclear
LSJI07 - MBITLast Friday at 4:37 PM
What about the future issue of ASICs returning after a BIP9 fork "soon"? Are all following the WP as a community? i.e asic resistant or are we prepared to change that to asic resistant for early coin emission. Ideally we should plan for the future. Could the community make a statement that no future algo changes will be required to incentivise future public asic manufacturers?
Lol. Same question @brutoid
brutoidLast Friday at 4:37 PM
Haha it is
You mind-beamed me!
[Dev-Happy] BlondfrogsLast Friday at 4:38 PM
The is up to the community.
Currently, the feel seems like the community is anti asic forever.
The main issue is getting people to upgrade.
KAwARLast Friday at 4:38 PM
Clarity is important. Otherwise we are attacking windmills like Don Quixote.
brutoidLast Friday at 4:39 PM
I'm not getting the feeling of community ASIC hate if the last few weeks of discussion are anything to go by?
Hans_SchmidtLast Friday at 4:39 PM
A unilateral non-BIP9 change at a chosen block height is a serious thing, but anti-ASIC has been part of the RVN philosophy since the whitepaper and is therefore appropriate for that purpose.
[Dev-Happy] BlondfrogsLast Friday at 4:39 PM
We can use the latest release as an example. It was a non forking release, announced for 2 weeks. and only ~30% of the network has upgraded.
TronLast Friday at 4:39 PM
@Hans_Schmidt Well said.
liqdmetalLast Friday at 4:40 PM
I'm not concerned about a "asic hardware problem" so much as I believe it more likely what we are seeing is several big fish miners (perhaps a single really big fish). For now I recommend standing pat on x16r. In the future I can see an algo upgrade fork to keep the algo up to date. If we start fighting against dedicated x16r hashing machines designed and built to secure our network we are more likely to go down in flames. The custom SHA256 computers that make the bitcoin the most secure network in existence are a big part of that security. If some party has made an asic that performs up to par or better than FPGA or GPU on x16r, that is a positive for this network, a step towards SHA256 security levels. It is too bad the community is in the dark regarding their developments. Therefore I think the community has to clarify its stance towards algorithm changes. I prefer a policy that will encourage the development of mining software, bitstreams and hardware by as many parties as possible. The imminent threat of ALGO fork screws the incentive up for developers.
JerozLast Friday at 4:40 PM
@brutoid the vocal ones are lenient towards asics, but the outcome of the 600+ votes seemed pretty clear.
brutoidLast Friday at 4:40 PM
This is my confusion
TronLast Friday at 4:41 PM
More hashes are only better if the cost goes up proportionally. Machines that do more hashes for less $ doesn't secure the network more, and trends towards centralization.
JerozLast Friday at 4:41 PM
I would argue for polling ever so often as it certainly will evolve dynamically with the state of crypto over time.
TronLast Friday at 4:41 PM
Measure security in two dimensions. Distribution, and $/hash.
liqdmetalLast Friday at 4:41 PM
and volume of hash
traysiLast Friday at 4:42 PM
45% of the hashrate going to one party is unhealthy, and standing pat on x16r just keeps that 45% where it is.
TronLast Friday at 4:42 PM
Volume doesn't matter if the cost goes down. For example, lets say software shows up that does 1000x better than the software from yesterday, and everyone moves to it. That does not add security. Even if the "difficulty" and embedded hashes took 1000x more attempts to find.
brutoidLast Friday at 4:42 PM
My issue is defintely centralization of hash and not so much what machine is doing it. I mine with both GPU and FPGA. Of course, the FPGAs are not on raven
TJayLast Friday at 4:44 PM
easy solution is just to replace a few of 16 current hash functions, without messing with x21r or whatever new shit
TronLast Friday at 4:44 PM
How do folks here feel about allowing CPUs back in the game?
traysiLast Friday at 4:44 PM
Botnets is my concern with CPUs
brutoidLast Friday at 4:44 PM
Botnets is my concern
SpyderDevLast Friday at 4:44 PM
Yes please.
LSJI07 - MBITLast Friday at 4:44 PM
the poll votes seem not very security conscious. More of day miners chasing profits. I love them bless! Imho the future is bright for raven, however these issues if not sorted out now will bite hard long term when asset are on the chain and gpu miners are long gone.....
ZaabLast Friday at 4:45 PM
How has the testing of restricted assets been on the test net?
liqdmetalLast Friday at 4:45 PM
Agreed. I dont think x16r is obsolete like that yet however
[Dev-Happy] BlondfrogsLast Friday at 4:45 PM
@Zaab not enough testing at the moment.
HedgerLast Friday at 4:45 PM
Yes, how is the Testing going?
justinjjaLast Friday at 4:45 PM
Like randomX or how are cpus going to be back in the game?
TronLast Friday at 4:45 PM
@Zaab Just getting started at testing at the surface level (RPC calls), and fixing as we go.
ZaabLast Friday at 4:45 PM
And or any updates on the review of dividend code created by the community
Lokar -=Kai=-Last Friday at 4:45 PM
if the amount of hash the unknown pool has is fixed as standarderror indicated then waiting for the community of FPGAers to get onto raven might be advantageous if the fork doesn't hurt FPGAs.
ZaabLast Friday at 4:45 PM
Can't rememeber who was on it
SpyderDevLast Friday at 4:45 PM
@Zaab But we are working on it...
Lokar -=Kai=-Last Friday at 4:46 PM
more hash for votes
JerozLast Friday at 4:46 PM
@Maldon is, @Zaab
TronLast Friday at 4:46 PM
@Zaab There are unit tests and functional tests already, but we'd like more.
[Dev-Happy] BlondfrogsLast Friday at 4:46 PM
@Zaab Dividend code is currently adding test cases for better security. Should have more update on that next meeting
KAwARLast Friday at 4:46 PM
Absolute democracy seems to resemble anarchy or at least civil war. In EVE online they have a type of community voice that get voted in by the community.
ZaabLast Friday at 4:46 PM
No worries was just curious if it was going as planned or significant issues were being found
Obviously some hiccups are expected
More testing is always better!
TronLast Friday at 4:47 PM
Who in here is up for a good civil war?
ZaabLast Friday at 4:47 PM
Tron v Bruce. Celebrity fight night with proceeds to go to the RVN dev fund
SpyderDevLast Friday at 4:48 PM
Cagefight or mudpit?
JerozLast Friday at 4:48 PM
talking about dev funds.....
Pho3nix Monk3yLast Friday at 4:49 PM
and there goes the conversation....
KAwARLast Friday at 4:49 PM
I am trying to be serious...
ZaabLast Friday at 4:49 PM
Sorry back to the ascii topic!
traysiLast Friday at 4:49 PM
@Tron What do we need in order to make progress toward a decision on the algo? Is there a plan or a roadmap of sorts to get us some certainty about what we're going to do?
LSJI07 - MBITLast Friday at 4:50 PM
Could we have 3 no BIP9 votes? No1 Friendly to asics, retain status quo. No2 change to x17r minimal changes etc, with no additional future PoW/algo upgrades. No3. Full Asic resistance x22r and see what happens...
:thonk~1:
Sounds messy....
TronLast Friday at 4:51 PM
Right now we're in research mode. We're building CNv4 so we can run some metrics. If that goes well, we can put together x22rc and see how it performs. It will likely gore everyone's ox. CPUs can play, GPUs work, but aren't dominant. ASICs VERY difficult, and FPGAs will have a tough time.
ZaabLast Friday at 4:51 PM
Yeah i feel like the results would be unreliable
TronLast Friday at 4:51 PM
Is this good, or do we lose everyone's vote?
PlayHardLast Friday at 4:52 PM
Fpga will be dead
Lokar -=Kai=-Last Friday at 4:52 PM
why isn;t a simple XOR or something on the table?
ZaabLast Friday at 4:52 PM
The multiple bip9 that is
Lokar -=Kai=-Last Friday at 4:52 PM
something asic breaking but doesn't greatly complicate ongoing efforts for FPGA being my point.
justinjjaLast Friday at 4:52 PM
How are you going to vote for x22rc?
Because if by hashrate that wouldn't pass.
traysiLast Friday at 4:52 PM
Personally I like the idea of x22rc but I'd want to investigate the botnet threat if CPUs are allowed back in.
TronLast Friday at 4:52 PM
XOR is on the table, and was listed in my Medium post. But, the social risk of chain split remains, for very little gain.
traysiLast Friday at 4:53 PM
@Lokar -=Kai=- A small change means that whoever has 45% can probably quickly adapt.
LSJI07 - MBITLast Friday at 4:53 PM
Research sounds good. x22rc could be reduce to x22r for simplicity...
TronLast Friday at 4:53 PM
x22r is a viable option. No CNv4.
LSJI07 - MBITLast Friday at 4:53 PM
Don't know how much time we have to play with though...
Lokar -=Kai=-Last Friday at 4:53 PM
if they have FPGAs yes if they have ASIC then not so much, but I guess that gets to the point, what exactly are we trying to remove from the network?
PlayHardLast Friday at 4:54 PM
Guys my name is Arsen and we designed x16r fpga on bcus. Just about to release it to the public. I am buzzdaves partner.
Cryptonight
Will kill us
But agreed
Asic is possible on x16r
And you dont need 256 core
Cores
traysiLast Friday at 4:55 PM
Hi Arsen. Are you saying CN will kill "us" meaning RVN, or meaning FPGA?
JerozLast Friday at 4:55 PM
This is what im afraid of ^ an algo change killing FPGA as I have the feeling there is a big fpga community working on this
PlayHardLast Friday at 4:55 PM
Fpgas ))
whitefire990Last Friday at 4:55 PM
I am also about to release X16R for CVP13 + BCU1525 FPGA's. I'm open to algo changes but I really don't believe in CPU mining because of botnets. Any CNv4 shifts 100% to CPU mining, even if it is only 1 of the 22 functions.
Lokar -=Kai=-Last Friday at 4:55 PM
namely FPGAs that aren;t memory equipped
like fast mem
not ddr
PlayHardLast Friday at 4:55 PM
Hbm non hbm
Cryptonight
whitefire990Last Friday at 4:56 PM
Right now with both Buzzdave/Altered Silicon and myself (Zetheron) about to release X16R for FPGA's, then the 45% miner's share will decrease to 39% or less.
PlayHardLast Friday at 4:56 PM
Will be dead for fpga
LSJI07 - MBITLast Friday at 4:56 PM
sound so x22r is fpga "friendly" ... more so than asic anyway...
PlayHardLast Friday at 4:56 PM
But a change must be planned
X16r is no way possible to avoid asics
TJayLast Friday at 4:56 PM
@LSJI07 - MBIT I would say less friendly...
whitefire990Last Friday at 4:57 PM
As I mentioned in thenest discussion, asic resistance increases with the square of the number of functions, so X21R is more asic resistant than X16R, but both are pretty resistant
PlayHardLast Friday at 4:58 PM
Yeah more algos make it heavier on ASIC
DirkDiggler (Citadel Architect)Last Friday at 4:58 PM
My interpretation of the whitepaper was that we used x16r as it was brand new (thus ASIC resistant), and that was to ensure a fair launch... We've launched... I don't like the idea of constantly forking to avoid the inevitable ASICs.
x16r was a great "experiment" before we had any exchange listings... that ship has sailed though... not sure about all these x22rs lmnop changes
KAwARLast Friday at 5:00 PM
I believe that it is easier to change the direction of a bicycle than an oil tanker. We feel more like a train. We should lay out new tracks and test on them and find benefits that are acceptable to everyone except train robbers. Then open the new train station with no contentious feelings except a silently disgruntled minority group. ???
Hans_SchmidtLast Friday at 5:01 PM
The most productive action the community can do now re ASICs is to voice support for the devs to make a non-BIP9 change at a chosen block height if/when the need is clear. That removes the pressure to act rashly to avoid voting problems.
LSJI07 - MBITLast Friday at 5:01 PM
Thats why im proposing to fork at least once to a more asic resistant algo (but FPGA "friendly/possible"), with the proviso ideally that no more PoW algo forks are require to provide future ASICs some opportunity to innovate with silicon and efficiency.

folks should take into account, that high end FPGAs like BCU1525 on x16r can't beat even previous gen GPUs (Pascal) in terms of hash cost. so they aren't a threat to miners community

Just so I'm clear here, we are trying to boot ASICS, don't want CPUs because of Botnets, and are GPU and FPGA friendly right?

If there is a bip9 vote there needs to be a clear explanation as I feel most in the community don't understand exactly what we are trying to fix

@Hans_Schmidt I like that route. It has some game theoretics. It gives time for miners to adapt. It is only used if needed. It reduces the likelihood of ASICs dominating the network, or even being built.

Hey guys. great convo. We are of course looking to do the best thing for the community and miner. We are going to be signing off here though.

TJay that comes down to power cost.

I've started working on modifying the Vive wireless adapter for better passive cooling.

First and foremost: I voided my warranty, this is not a how to, this is an attempt to see if anyone else is working on a similar solution and to get as much input from as many people as possible. Please chime in if you have any thoughts on the subject. I have the Pro version, which means the adapter is under more strain, it's constantly at the bandwidth limit in most games.

I have no background in engineering nor am I in any way qualified to do this, but I did mine bitcoin back in the day and learned a lot about heat accumulation and dissipation. My proudest achievement was running a 6 GPU rig on my balcony for a year consecutively in Finland with the ambient temperature of -30c to +40c. Almost nothing ever caught fire :) This experience leads me to think that it's a bad idea to draw more power trough the headset, from the same battery for a fan. Also I have long hair and am downright afraid of adding a fan to my head.

I have begun to cut off some, not all of the, "plastic strips" covering the openings in the adapter. I intend to remove about half of them, every other to be exact, removing all seems like it could weaken the "chassis" too much. If that is not sufficient then I'll open the entire thing out and try to figure out if there are spots where small aluminum heat sinks could be added without interfering with the reception. What material would be the least interfering with the reception whilst having the greatest possible thermal conductivity? The answer is probably not metal at all?
Here's where I began, I intend to go back and smooth the edges, possibly with a soldering iron: https://imgur.com/a/smMdT7n

I'll try to post updates in comments as the chopping progresses, hopefylly we see some input before entirely "gut the sucker" :)

Anyone considering adding a fan might want to cut off the "plastic strips" covering the openings in the adapter from beneath the spot you intend to add the fan to, especially if you intend to glue the fan on to the adapter. Actually I can guarantee this will improve the (unknown to me) efficiency of your fan mod by a double digit %.

[edit1]
I have removed roughly half of the strips and done some testing, not enough to say anything conclusive, but the adapter seems slightly cooler after and during intense use. I did play a full battery's worth of Skyrim without seeing a grey screen, this has happened before, but not that often. I discovered the back "plastic strip" has a clip that's holding the enclosure together. Had I known this I would of not cut it, looks like it missing wont be a problem tough. I have clearly created openings that will gather dust, so from here on I'll make a routine of blasting the adapter with air duster from time to time. It's obviously also more vulnerable to liquids now, but I don't see any sweat getting in from the top and sides where the modifications are.

Has anyone opened the adapter up, does a teardown guide exist?

[edit2]
It just occurred to me that anyone using a fan mod would achieve greater efficiency by running a split usb cable, so the fan does not draw power trough the headset. If my current tinkering proves inefficient I will probably go this way myself. Having the fan pull air trough the top of the headset, rather than pushing it in.

[edit3]
10 hours of gaming in and I haven't seen a grey/blue screen yet. Apart from one IRQ error, those usually bsod my whole computer. Unfortunately I seem to be stuck on that front because my mobo's bios dosen't seem to include any IRQ settings at all.

[edit4]
Haven't seen a grey screen since the modifications, but my holodeck is in a room that gets no heating, so the ambient temperature has been 5-10c less than usual. So I'm pretty sure I have no valid findings to report atm. I will, only, continue working on the adapter as the problems re-emerge. Doing anything now seems like fumbling in the dark.
[edit5] Been slightly warmer so yesterday when I fired up Moss and turned the graphics options all the way up I experienced the first grayscreen that lasted longer than a second and did not recover on it's own after beginning modifying the adapter. This was after ~20 minutes of playing. So I proceeded on with the chopping, I promise pictures soon but atm there is no light, I have now cut all the strips on all the sides, 6 out of the 18 strips on the top mid part remain and 1/3 on the horn's remain. Please note that I've concluded that cutting the strips on the horns does absolutely nothing heat wise, so knowing what I know now I'd leave them be.

I'm about to attempt to overheat the thing with Moss next and if I succeed, I'll start looking at usb fans.

[edit5]
Did not overheat this time around, regardless I'm looking at fans. Optimal sizes seem like 5cm or 7.5cm diameter. As explained earlier I'll go for a "split cable" or "passthrough" to avoid running any extra current trough the adapter. I'm pretty sure no ones reading this, but I'll keep updating it and will re-publish if I feel like I've gotten the issue sorted. Not covering the button seems harder than anticipated, I should move it... but I don't feel comfortable doing that. I guess I'll order a bunch of fans and see what works out once I have them in hand.
Note to self: the added usb cable/'s should run under, not over the adapter. So that we don't introduce copper wires to block or hinder the signal. This means the minimum cable length is ~13cm. Arctic cooling can move 15.1 CFM / 25.7 m³/h @ 0.08 Sone (@ 1,200 RPM) with a 8cm fan. Settling for less than half of this would be madness. USB to 2 x 3/4-Pin PWM 5V USB Sleeved Dual Fan Power Adapter Cable exists, were not settling for less :) I orderedhttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077PXJRTT/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 mainly because they did not attempt to screw me over with shipping costing more than the 800% markup product.
and https://www.arctic.ac/eu_en/f8-silent.html because they make the best products in the field. at 5v this runs at 400 rpm, completely silent and still shifting 5 CFM or 8.5 m³/h. If this proves inefficient I can try running it with a separate 9V battery, no speed is indicated for 9V, but that'd reach 700-800 RPM and increase the airflow at the same rate.
Still looking for usb male to male type a splitter (all male) these don't seem to exist : /
[edit6]
Gave a try using a soldering iron to smooth the openings and cut edges, not a huge success, but gets the job done.

Did some log digging, things are bad:

87c that's not a safe amount of heat to attach to the top of your head. That's also a temperature that would kill a GPU if constantly reached.

Fan arrived, I got the size right, but can't proceed to test before the cable arrives. I did think of a lazy but promising way of testing ways to mount the fan: I'mma just ziptie it to the horns and experiment at different angles with wedges of cardboard to hold it. The fan weighs 71g and the plastic strips that I've removed total about 6g. I'm pretty sure I can shave off up to 10g from the fans plastic components once I decide on a mounting style/method. There'd probably be an another 2g to shave off by shortening the power cable, but in my case I'll need a friend to do it for me and I was thinking of shortening the power adapter cable to the bare minimum too so might as well stack the jobs. I'm also scrounging for a net of some sort to keep my hair out of the fan, that'll obstruct the airflow like a mf especially as I'm adding one to both sides... but I'm hopeful that the fan is overkill enough to still do the job and keep me cooler during Beat Sabre.

5 Months of ADOPTION! -- NANO accepted here! (9)

INTRO 1 (May 24, 2018)
After 5 months of adoption we are counting at least 136 shops / options to spend NANO.
This means a current growth rate of 1.1 shops per day.
NANO has been accepted so far in the US, CZ, GER, UK, CAN, AUS, BRA, FRA, AT, NL, TUR, PH, NZ, JP, RU + CW (Curaçao) + HR (Croatia), ITA, GR (Greece)
UPDATED COUNTER: 155 shops / options [former growth rate: 1 / day].
